Mikheil Kareli Presumably To Resign From His Position

Tbilisi. September 12 (Prime-News) – Mikheil Kareli, envoy of the president in Shida Kartli region, names today’s events in Gori shameful.

Kareli told journalists about that at the support action of high-ranking officials who were detained in Gori today.

“When authorities preach democracy in the country, such facts are a shame,” Kareli noted and stated that he would make concrete decision in several days.

Kareli reckons that it is inadmissible that MPs of local council are not allowed to enter administrative building for holding a session.

Prosecutor’s Office detained high-ranking officials in Gori region on Wednesday. The detainees are: Vasil Makharashvili, governor of Gori region, David Kechuashvili, assistant of governor of Gori region, Nugzar Papunashvili, Vice Chairman of Gori city Council, and Khvicha Okropiridze, deputy governor of Gori region and Gia Zarandia, former governor of Kareli region.

Action of support for the detained high-ranking officials was held at the building of local administration in Gori. The action was headed by Giorgi Mchedlidze, Deputy envoy of the president in Shida Kartli region.

Local population did not manage to enter the building of local administration. The building was surrounded by Patrol Police.

Confrontation between MPs and Police transformed into a quarrel during which several people were injured.

Participants of the action state that detention of the abovementioned officials is groundless and it is connected to their friendship with Irakli Okruashvili, former Defense Minister of Georgia.

“National Forum” Has Not Made Decision On Joining New Faction

Tbilisi. September 12 (Prime-News) – The “National Forum” party has not made a decision on joining of its two members: Gocha Jojua and Gogi Tsulaia the new faction that will be presumably established at the Parliament of Georgia.

Prime-News was told at the “National Forum” that the party continues consultations with different political forces in the Parliament regarding establishment of the new parliamentary faction.

A new oppositional faction will be presumably established at the Parliament of Georgia by the end of September. Arguably, the faction will be headed by MP Valery Gelbakiani.

According to MP Gogi Tsulaia, he intends to join the new faction.According to him, the faction will have equal opportunities and will be comprised of some MPs from the parliamentary majority.

According to preliminary information, the faction will be comprised of Gogi Tsulaia, Gocha Jojua, who have left the “National Movement”, and Temur Dolishvili.

Saakashvili: Average Salary Of Teachers To Amount To GEL 200 Since January 01

 

Tbilisi. September 12 (Prime-News) – Average salary of teachers will amount to GEL 200 since January 01 2008.

Mikheil Saakashvili, president of Georgia, stated about that at the meeting with teachers and pupils of Borjomi public school on Wednesday.

According to the president, inventory of all public schools in Georgia will be renewed by 2010.

According to Saakashvili, today there are all conditions for citizens for receiving secondary, technical and higher education.

He noted that it is necessary to introduce new technologies in all spheres and schools.

“We all need to create new ideology in schools,” he stated.

Alexander Lomaia, Minister of education and Science of Georgia, and Nodar Grigalashvili, Chairman of the parliamentary committee on education, science, culture and sport, attended the meeting.
