Russian Jets Fired Missile On Territory Of Gori Region

Vano Merabishvili, Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, confirmed the information to journalists on Tuesday morning.

Two Russian fighter jets Su 24 have violated Georgia’s airspace and fired an air-to-surface guided missile nearby territory of Gori region.

Precise time of the flight, heights and speed have been recorded by radars of the Defense Ministry and Civil Aviation.

“Our radars show, including air traffic record indicating that the jet has come from the Russian territory over Kazbegi district and returned back to Russia via the same route,” Merabishvili said.

According to him, the jets flew about 60 km west of Tbilisi. Investigation group is working on the spot.

Georgian side turned on anti-missile system after which Russian jets have left the territory, thus they dropped a 700-kilo bomb.

The area is not populated and the incident caused no victims.

The Russian Defense Ministry denies that two Russian military aircrafts had violated Georgian airspace and dropped a bomb near Georgian village.

“Russian aircraft did not fly over Georgian territory either Monday evening or Tuesday morning. They did not violate Georgian airspace,” reads the statement of the Russian Defense Ministry.

Tbilisi. August 07 (Prime-News) – Eduard Kokoity, de facto president of the unrecognized republic South Ossetia, names bombing of Tsitelubani a deliberate provocation.

Press and Information committee of the unrecognized republic South Ossetia informs about that referring tot the statement of Eduard Kokoity.

Kokoity stated that aim of the provocation is to draw international attention away from policy of state terrorism implemented by Georgia on territory fo South Ossetia.

According to him, jets of Georgian Defense Ministry have bombarded territory near Ossetian village at 18:20 on Monday. After maneuvering for a long time and dropping a rocket the jet flew in direction of Georgia.

Kokoity states that accusations of Russia of bombing territory of villages are absurd.

Natelashvili told journalists that the action could have been implemented as by Russian aviation also by aviation of Mikheil Saakashvili.

Bakradze noted that it was violation of Georgian airspace from Russian side.

Saakashvili stated during examination of the spot in the village Tsitelubani of Gori region that Europe should determine what kind of relations it would have with Russia.

Saakashvili stated that such provocation is expected to disorder situation in Georgia and cause panic of population.

“We will answer these provocations with calm, unity and development. No one should have the illusion to threaten multiethnic Georgia,” Saakashvili stated.
